Ayrshire

WEST COAST

Ayrshire & Arran is home to some of the finest golf courses in the world including three internationally renowned Open Championship courses, and is of course, the ‘Birthplace of The Open’ where it all began at Prestwick Golf Club in 1860.

Glasgow Gailes Links

World class links golf on the West Coast of Scotland.

Gailes has hosted major championship tournaments through the years and was designed by legendary golf architect Willie Park Jnr of Musselburgh. It was opened in 1892 by Glasgow Golf Club, the 9th oldest golf club in the world.

Its West Coast setting and fabulous condition makes it ideal for summer and winter golf in Scotland. It is a world class links course which attracts players from every corner of the globe. Gailes Links is an R&A preferred championship links course in Ayrshire close to Open venues at Royal Troon and Turnberry.

At 6903 yards long from the championship tees with a par of 71 Gailes Links Ayrshire is a great test of golf whilst the kinder medium tees provides a fine test for players of all abilities. It is simply traditional links at its best.

The challenge starts with a steady stream of four consecutive par fours followed by the signature hole, a par five dog-leg with out-of-bounds to the right and a treacherous green that’s guarded by strategically placed sand traps. It then lets up with a neat par three, only to bite back with another demanding run of five par fours. With its undulating fairways, fine greens and subtle qualities, it is an honest test of golfing skills in true links fashion.

Situated on a stretch of golfing terrain unrivalled in the world, Prestwick is less than a couple of hours travel from all the other Open Championship courses in Scotland and is a must play for any discerning lover of the game.

Royal Troon Golf Club

Royal Troon Golf Club is a links golf course in Scotland, located in Troon, South Ayrshire. The club was founded 138 years ago in 1878, initially with five holes. George Strath was appointed in 1881 as the club's first golf professional.

The Open will return to the Ayrshire coast in 2016 when the 145th Championship is played at Royal Troon. It will be the ninth time that the Championship has been held over the famous links, most recently in 2004 when veteran American Todd Hamilton overcame three-time major champion Ernie Els in a play-off.

The Old Course

One of the Greatest Links Courses in Scotland

The Old Course is a challenging test of golfing ability. With the wind to contend with, and deep rough interspersed with gorse and broom, accurate shot making is essential.

Course Information

COURSE LENGTH PAR S.S.S.
Ladies (Red) 6108 yds (5585m) 75 76
Yellow 6170 yds (5641m) 71 71
White 6632 yds (6064m) 71 73
Championship (Blue) 7208 yds (6591m) 71 75

The Portland Course

Shorter & Friendlier But Still a True Links Challenge

The Portland is a little more sheltered than the Old Course and, of course, shorter. The holes meander through terrain filled with gorse and broom and has a generous helping of Par 3's and Par 5's.
